WHAT'S UP WITH LEMON WATER?
Morning Ritual— LEMON WATER! An essential. Drinking room temp, filtered water with half of a fresh lemon squeezed in is how I start my day no matter where I am. This has to be one of my favorite morning rituals for multiple reasons. It’s a great way to re-hydrate and wake up your body after sleeping (for 7-8 hours hopefully) and can help flush the digestive system. Lemons contain Vitamin C, potassium, iron and Vitamin B6; drinking lemon water first thing in the morning gives the body a chance to absorb these vitamins effectively and can provide a little immune boost.
Water temperature is important here. You don’t want your water to be hot OR cold. You want your water temperature to be lukewarm or room temperature. Why you may ask? Our bodies have been resting while we were sleeping, it’s not ideal to wake our organs up with boiling hot or freezing cold water. We should always wake our bodies and digestive system up gently.
Want even more benefits? Try adding in a pinch of Celtic Sea Salt for an extra replenishment of electrolytes. Celtic Salt alkalizes the body, builds immunity and improves brain function. Every cell in our body needs a balance of potassium and sodium.
Feeling Boujee and wish you could just have a spa day already? (I know I am). Try adding in some mint leaves too! Mint helps relax the muscles in our digestive tract, can help boost brain function and smells so soothing!
I often get asked, “Where do I begin?!” Starting a healthier lifestyle can seem super overwhelming but lemon water first thing in the morning is a great way to start. It’s not difficult to do and you will instantly feel a difference. This routine has turned into a morning ritual for me and I look forward to starting my day this way. If you aren’t already a lemon water drinker it’s time to give it a try!
It’s also a great way to set the tone for staying hydrated and drinking water throughout the day. For me, starting my day off with lemon water as the first thing I consume is a RESET, especially if I didn’t make very good choices the previous day or had a bit (or more than a bit) to drink the night before, you know what I mean?
Next time you’re at the grocery store, grab some organic lemons and squeeze half of one into your big glass of room temp water!
P.S. I love drinking my lemon water with a reusable straw because 1. I find it helps me take in more water and 2. using a straw is easier on the enamel on our teeth.
