SUMMER SKINCARE ROUTINE: DAY
Hellloo Summer Glow!
For those who don’t know me, I am pretty obsessed with Skincare!! I have tried SO MANY PRODUCTS over the years and have learned a lot about skin since I began my own journey to healing my Adult Hormonal Acne… A little background on my skin type— I have normal/combination skin. It’s not too oily or dry, but gets congested really easily and a bit more dry in the winter months, so I have to make sure I am giving my skin a balance of proper exfoliation (both physical and chemical) and hydration. Also my skin goals are to reduce hyper-pigmentation from left over acne scaring and to control/prevent breakouts. And basically to be a DEWY DUMPLING! Lol
I wanted to mention one very important thing that comes before any products… THE GLOW COMES FROM WITHIN!!! You could be using 87 different products, $300 serums and creams, but IF YOU ARE NOT NOURISHING YOUR BODY FROM WITHIN— EATING WHOLE REAL FOODS AND EXERCISING AND MOVING YOUR BODY TO SWEAT OUT TOXINS AND CREATING FLOW FOR STAGNATION INSIDE YOUR BODY, topical products will not make you GLOW LIKE A DEWY DUMPLING!!! Maybe very temporarily if your’e dousing oils all over your face, but long term, to really see a GLOW in your skin, it comes from WITHIN!
Also, another little side note, I feel like the products mentioned below would work for all skin types but the only way to truly know what works for you and what doesn’t, is to experiment and test it out for yourself. These products work well for my skin type which is Normal/Combination.
Okay so here’s the breakdown of my AM SKIN ROUTINE:
Step 1. CLEANSE— Rinse face with tepid (not too hot or cold) warm water. Very gently and lightly, *pat down exterior of face with a clean towel, tap the excess water remaining on center of face* we want to retain moisture here. Sometimes if my skin is feeling dry, you know that tight feeling, I just pat all the excess water into my skin and don’t use a towel to dry. Depending on how “gross” my skin feels, I will go in and cleanse with a gentle cleanser. My current favorite I am loving, especially in the summer is Josie Maran Pineapple Pore Clearing Cleanser. 1 little pump does the job.
Step 2. TONER— (Optional, I sometimes switch between am/pm, but I like to get gentle exfoliation in). On a cotton pad, soak Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 (original or 1970) AKA LIQUID GOLD and PAT/PRESS INTO SKIN. We want to PAT/PRESS the toner into our skin rather than rub all over at first, to really push all those active ingredients in. In this step I am using an ACTIVE toner, meaning it has active ingredients like AHA’s (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) to really chemically exfoliate the skin on a deeper level. Gently swipe cotton pad all over.
Step 3. VITAMIN C— Currently I am loving my go-to holy grail, Sunday Riley C.E.O 15% Vitamin C Brightening Serum. For me, it does exactly what it says, brightens! Those stubborn dark spots begin to fade away with consistent use. Vitamin C is the only thing that has worked for me in reducing dark spots. But be careful with Vitamin C. Not all are created the same. Most Vitamin C products are very unstable, so finding the right one which isn’t already oxidized is very important. This serum is stable and super moisturizing, so you could even skip the next step depending on how dry your skin feels and move onto SPF. To apply, 1-1 1/2 pumps onto palm, rub palms together and in an UPWARD motion evenly distribute onto face.
Step 4. OIL/MOISTURIZER— This step is extra, but this is where the GLOW happens! I am currently loving my go-to oil, especially in the summer, Josie Maran Argan Bright Skin Vitamin C Serum. It’s called a serum, but the texture is more of an oil to me. With even more stable Vitamin C for brightening, Rice Bran, Marshmallow Root, and Licorice Root to boost luminosity and 100% Pure Argan Oil which infuses skin with vitamin E, antioxidants, and firming omega essential fatty acids. My other favorite Oil is by Sunday Riley, C.E.O Glow Vitamin C + Turmeric Face Oil. Stable Vitamin C and turmeric for reducing inflammation, this stuff is a holy grail of mine. o apply oil, take one full dropper into palm, rub palms together and PRESS evenly all over face, wait about a minute before moving on to the rest of your routine. If your not an oil gal, that’s okay.. I also love using a good quality moisturizer especially in the winter months when my skin can be more dry. Living Libations Sun Dew Vitamin D Cream is another holy grail! All Living Libations products are actually incredible, wild crafted, clean ingredients! To apply cream, take a small amount (about the size of a dime) and rub into palms and in an UPWARD motion, gently rub evenly into skin.
Step 5. SUNSCREEN— Probably THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP OF ALL! My number one anti-aging tip, SPF (Sun Protection Factor)!!! I didn’t start wearing SPF until a few years back when I started my skin journey, but OMG if I only knew the damage I was doing to my skin all the previous years of baking in the sun without protecting my face! The type of SPF is a bit of a personal preference, but one thing for sure I know is that no one likes a white cast. I have tried and tested plenty of SPF’s so I’ll list my favorites below. I personally love a tinted SPF as I try to avoid wearing foundation as much as possible. I find a good tinted SPF is enough coverage for me as a base, and I’ll just spot conceal over any breakouts or darker pigmentation. I’m currently using two different tinted SPF’s. The first one by ILIA Super Serum Skin Tint with SPF 40. The second one is by Suntegrity Skincare Tinted 5 in 1 Natural Moisturizing Face Sunscreen SPF 30. Another favorite that comes in a tinted and non-tined option is EltaMD UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46. To apply, I would use the same method as above with a moisturizing cream, disperse a small amount into palm, rub palms together and in an UPWARD motion, rub gently and evenly all over face and don’t forget your neck, eyelids and lips!!
Okay guys, that’s my full AM/DAYTIME SKINCARE ROUTINE BREAKDOWN! And if you’re not already wearing Sunscreen EVERY SINGLE DAY RAIN OR SHINE please, do yourself a favor and start wearing SUNSCREEN, your skin will thank you later!!!
xx,
RH
